Upper Arlington, Ohio: Where Life Is Meant to Be Lived Well

At Compass Homes, our promise is to build custom homes with more thought per square foot. You could say the same for one of Central Ohio’s most beloved communities, Upper Arlington.  Sitting just northwest of downtown Columbus, Upper Arlington quietly offers something rare: a place where tradition and progress live side by side, where neighbors know each other’s names, and where craftsmanship — in homes, in parks, in schools — still matters.

You notice it right away, driving beneath a canopy of hundred-year-old trees, while just a few miles from bustling Downtown Columbus. Homes come in all shapes and sizes, each with their own unique character. Built from materials like brick, stone, and wood, they’re made to last and designed with care. Whether it’s a 1920s Tudor with a slate roof or a thoughtfully built brand-new home that honors the history around it, Upper Arlington feels lived-in, lasting—and deeply intentional.

It is a city that honors its history but refuses to feel stuck in time, blending timeless charm with modern living.

Built for Everyday Life, Designed for the Exceptional

Families choose Upper Arlington for a variety of reasons, including the top-ranked Upper Arlington Schools, the proximity to the economic hub of downtown Columbus, The Ohio State University, and some of the leading medical institutions in the country, including OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital, Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, and The James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute.

But perhaps most importantly, Upper Arlington radiates a strong sense of community. Residents and visitors alike, have long enjoyed the famous Fourth of July celebrations, Farmer’s Markets on Wednesday nights, bike rides through one of the city’s numerous parks, restaurants and shops along Lane Avenue, or the many independent boutiques and cozy coffee shops sprinkled throughout the community.

Now, recent additions to the area have brought everyone even closer together! The Tremont Center – known for being home to local favorites like Moretti’s and The Original Goodie Shop –now features newcomers like HobNob Pizza and Storyline Bookshop – an incredibly charming, independently-owned bookstore. And just a few shops down is the ever-busy Littleton’s Market, offering gourmet groceries, delicious eats, and a perfect patio for sipping wine with family or friends.

Most recently, the Bob Crane Community Center opened its doors, bringing together cultural, recreational, and community amenities to the center of UA. The facility includes an indoor pool, fitness areas, three gymnasiums (including one multi-purpose), a café, indoor playground, walking/running track, event spaces, classrooms, meeting rooms, an e-sports room, senior lounge, outdoor terrace, and even an art gallery!
