As it’s getting colder, we’re thinking cozy! Warm, soft clothes, burrowing under blankets, and turning the heat up makes us cozy & warm. How can you bring this cozy feeling to your home? We think about this in every home we build here at Compass Homes, Columbus custom home builders, and we’ve gathered up all of the coziness we can think of. You’ll never want to leave!
Greenery:
Plants make us think of warmth & summer. Having them inside your home gives us an immediate, happy reaction. If you don’t have a green thumb, try pots of low-maintenance succulents or lifelike, fake plants. Put them inside the front door, on the 2nd floor landing, in the kitchen or office, bathrooms, and in the basement rec space. These little pops of green will brighten up the gloomiest of days.
Seating:
You might want to rethink furniture placement for the colder months. Create areas that take advantage of the warmth and coziness of a fire, or move furniture to let your family gather closer together. Do you have comfy seating that you & the kids can curl up in? A deep, soft cushioned chair or a soft sofa will create that comfort factor in your rooms. Add some big comfy throw pillows to the mix, so you can snuggle close to the fire with your kids or spouse.
Blankets:
Now is the time to get out soft blankets and drape them over couches, the backs of chairs, the ends of beds, or in the homework nook. Even if the heat is turned up, covering up with a blanket exudes a cozy feeling.
Scents:
An oil diffuser, scented reeds, and candles in warm, winter scents (think cinnamon, pine, peppermint, and coffee) can trigger your brain and relax you. Especially as winter drags on, and we don’t spend enough time outside, try some springs scents to get you ready for warmer weather.
Lighting:
Use “warm” bulbs in all of your home’s lighting. Have multiple light sources in your rooms, to create zones of lighting. Table lamps create a warm, intimate feeling. Having lighting that is dimmable will create a cozy feeling & eliminate the need for overhead lighting. How about investing in flameless candles? Create ambiance, while staying safe.
Rugs:
Hardwood, engineered hardwood, tile, and porcelain floors look amazing but can be chilly on the feet in the winter. Use big throw rugs, thick bathmats, and runners anyplace those cold tootsies are likely to be.
As you look around your home, is it ready for your family to get cozy? Hot chocolate mugs will need places to be set down, kids will want to burrow into furniture, and cold feet will need to be kept warm. Turn up your heat, dress warmly, and add some coziness to your rooms. Searching for a new home to build in Upper Arlington, Dublin or on your lot?
