Life in a Compass Home: 1 Year Later

More than a year after moving into their custom-built Compass home, the Keeney family of Upper Arlington shares how they ultimately found it and how it has transformed their everyday living. Spoiler alert, their home-buying journey was a process. It took months of looking, and feeling a bit discouraged about finding the right home that didn’t need renovations and had all the “nice to have things”. But, in the end, it feels meant to be.

They first began searching for the perfect neighborhood for their home, where their daughter could ride bikes with neighbors, walk to friends’ homes, and be established for years in a renowned school district. Not surprisingly, this led them to Upper Arlington. And then the home search began. While they looked and looked, they never found “the one.”

Having no luck, their realtor, Susie Pattison of Cutler Real Estate, suggested they consider building a home with Compass Homes. Choosing a custom-built luxury home allowed them to check all the boxes – and didn’t require a renovation project.

This is where fate seemed to step in. Another family had recently designed a home with Compass and even received the necessary building permits. Anxious to move into a new home, however, they chose to buy a move-in ready home from Compass, and the home that they originally designed went back on the market as a spec home. That spec home, although still a year away from occupancy, was a match for Keeney’s. A perfect match!

The year it took to bring their new home to life proved valuable for the Keeney’s. It allowed them time to sell their existing home, and their daughter could finish the school year with her friends, before making a move to a new home and a new school. It also let them see their new home come-to-life, and their anticipation grew each time they visited.

With any home, the moving process can be daunting. But the Keeneys were smart. After all, this wasn’t their first move. They moved like pros hiring professional movers, and the best part was they engaged with an organization company, Time 4 Organization, to “set-up” their home. In fact, the day they moved, they went to a concert while all these teams of people were setting up their house.

During the process, the Keeneys worked with Surround Interior Design to create spaces that reflected their lifestyle. As you can see from these images, the final product is luxurious.

Of course, no home, new or old, is complete without a few projects here or there. The Keeneys got busy right away with a pool project that is nothing short of resort-like. Having had a good experience with their past pool project, they knew to contract with Zaber Pools in Westerville to complete their backyard oasis.

After all was said and done, the Keeneys gave rave reviews about their new home and the entire process that brought it to fruition. A few of Kathy’s favorite features include the pantry, mudroom (because there is no such thing as too much organization), the beverage fridge, the dishwasher, and so many more.

“This home has checked all the boxes for us.”
