Quartz? Marble? Granite? With so many colors, materials, finishes and styles available, choosing the right countertops for your home may seem daunting. After all, we prep on them, work on them, socialize around them, and of course have to clean them. We ask a lot of our countertops! So, how to make the right selection?
With the help of Tiffany Pirkl, Client Liaison and Designer at our Award-Winning Design Studio, and our friends at Distinctive Marble and Granite, choosing the right countertop becomes an easy and fun process. Read on for things to consider when selecting your dream countertop.
Aesthetic
When you close your eyes and envision yourself standing in your new space, what do you see? If you’re going for a more natural look and feel, marble or granite may be your go-to. Marble is simply stunning and elegant, whereas granite offers more unique, natural patterns throughout. Or, quartz comes in a wide variety of colors and patterns to achieve the marble look of your dreams with less maintenance.
Ease of Cleaning
Looks can’t be everything when it comes to countertops. Have you ever been frustrated trying to clean grimy grout between a tiled countertop? If that’s not your ideal way to spend time and energy, a slab is your better option. If your family is prone to messes and stains, keep in mind that quartz is non-porous and very easy to clean while still mimicking a natural stone look. Marble or granite countertops are much more susceptible to staining and will require sealing.
Functionality
How does your family utilize counter space? If you are an avid baker or chef, you might choose marble for its heat-resistant properties. Quartz is a good jack-of-all-trades option; it is durable and resembles natural stones, while avoiding regular maintenance. Granite is a good option for outdoor countertops as it performs well under heat, especially lighter colors.
Budget
Of course, the luxury look of marble may be your number one choice but crunching the numbers may be enough to change your mind. Marble is one of the more highly priced options, while materials like granite may require frequent investments into resealing to maintain durability. While options like marble, granite or solid surfacing may increase your overall budget, it is a worthy investment to provide yourself with surfaces that match your desires and your lifestyle.
“Your kitchen is the heart of your home and the best area to make an investment in your space. Be bold or keep it classic, just make it something you will love to look at for years to come.”
