Originally part of the Grandview Heights Public Library, the three branches of the Upper Arlington Public Library (UAPL) system became independent following the passage of House Bill No. 494 in 1967. The bill sought to challenge a law prohibiting new library systems in Ohio and was spearheaded by then-Mayor, John Dunkel, after the circulation at the Upper Arlington branches surpassed their parent library.
The UAPL celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2017 and is considered a community jewel, providing opportunities for lifelong learning and fellowship. It is comprised of the Main Library on Tremont Road and two smaller branches, the Lane Road Branch, and the Miller Park Branch. The mission of the UAPL is to create educational, social, and entertaining experiences to inspire the local community to explore, gather, and grow. And it does this in a few unique ways.
Listen Columbus
Established by the Upper Arlington Public Library with support from the Friends of the UA Library, and a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services through the State Library of Ohio, Listen Columbus seeks to bring local music to library patrons. The UAPL features local music in its physical collections and through the Live at the Library concert series.
UA Archives
Through the UA Archives initiative, the library partners with local organizations and individuals to digitally preserve our community’s historical resources and make them available online.
Digital Puzzle Collection
Using Jigsaw, library patrons can try their hand at the UAPL’s digital puzzle collection, and find recommended books based on each puzzle.
Events and Programs
Whether the Stories and More Storytime for the kids, collaborative art stations, community programming, or adult book club, the UAPL has a robust calendar of events for patrons and community members to enjoy.
