U.S. News has confirmed what we at Compass Homes already knew – Columbus, Ohio is a GREAT place to live and work!

In its recent Best Places to Live rankings, U.S. News ranked Columbus #2 on the Best Places to Live in Ohio list, #59 for the national Best Places rankings, and #69 for Best Places to Retire

For its rankings, U.S. News analyzed 150 metro areas in the United States to find the best places to live. The analysis focused on the quality of life and the job market in each metro area, as well as the value of living there and people’s desire to live there.

While Columbus is certainly known for its love of the Ohio State Buckeyes, there’s so much more to this thriving Midwestern city that we’re so proud to call home. Covering over 233 miles, Columbus is home to a variety of neighborhoods and communities where you might choose to live. The city really has it all. You’ll find everything from the most rural suburbs to a growing downtown market for peak urban living.

As noted by U.S. News, “Columbus is teeming with art, music, theater, museums and culture, and thanks to the sprawling Ohio State University and an array of businesses, it’s also home to a bustling & energetic workforce.”  There also are a wealth of colleges, universities, and post-secondary education opportunities available throughout the metropolitan area that lends itself to a strong, diversified job market.

But it’s not all work here in Columbus, there are plenty of opportunities for play, too! There’s plenty of space to get outside with 19 Metro Parks to choose from, along with untold number of parks throughout Central Ohio communities, over a hundred miles of bike trails on the Olentangy and Scioto Bikeways, and hiking & walking trails throughout the entire area.

In addition to its natural beauty, Columbus has sports galore, from our beloved Buckeyes to the NHL’s Columbus Blue Jackets, the MLS’s Columbus Crew SC, and the MLB’s Triple-A affiliate, the Columbus Clippers. But that’s not all … the food scene in Columbus is thriving! With everything from multi-cultural and fusion fare, to traditional down-home food and gourmet burgers and hot dogs, to vegan and vegetarian offerings, Columbus is a perfect fit for the foodie in you.

But when it comes down to it, probably the best thing about living and working in Columbus, is its people. Columbus is proud of itself and natives love to tell others about this hidden gem. Don’t be surprised if you hear someone shout “O! H!” and receive an “I! O!” in return…every time! But beyond being friendly, it is truly inclusive and is known for its open-mindedness and welcoming nature.

We are proud to call Columbus, home and would love to help you make this amazing city your home too. Want to learn more about Compass Homes’ custom homes? Explore our custom floor plans or some of our past projects. And when you are ready to create your forever home, contact us to get started!
