2025 IBS Show: A Look at This Year’s Luxury Home Trends

Another year, another incredible week at the International Builders’ Show (IBS)! This year’s show in Las Vegas saw a record-breaking 124,000 attendees, and the Compass Homes team is thrilled to have accounted for a few of them. And now that we’ve had time to rest our feet, we’re excited to share some of the luxury trends that left us feeling inspired.

Two Words: Cold. Plunge.

At-home cold-plunge tubs are trending in a big way, driven largely by a growing interest in incorporating health and wellness into home design. “Health and wellness in the home was a common theme, heard in multiple sessions I attended,” said Pamela Saloom, Director of Sales & Marketing. Whether you’re an athlete, fitness junkie, or just simply health-conscious, you’re likely familiar with the many benefits of immersing yourself in cold water – like reducing inflammation, aiding muscle recovery, and improving circulation. And from what we saw at IBS 2025, embracing those benefits just got a lot more stylish.

Kohler recently designed a stunning and sleek cold plunge tub that’s set to be released for purchase later this year, and it isn’t the tight-squeeze barrel design you’ve seen before. No, this tub brings the ice bath experience of our dreams to life, featuring smart precision-temperature technology, integrated breathwork lighting, and a perfectly convenient slot to rest your phone or iPad in while you (quite literally) chill out! Designed for both indoor and outdoor use, the tub is the perfect addition for anyone who wants to elevate their home gym or wellness space.

Fluted Surfaces

Something we’ve embraced in recent projects that are now having a major moment are fluted and curved surfaces – everywhere, and we mean EVERYWHERE! Fluting, which simply consists of a series of shallow, vertical grooves along a surface, adds texture and character to a room or surface. It also helps draw the eye upward, creating the illusion of height and openness. A beautiful example of fluting can be seen in the Kit-Kat tile, which we feature in this Worthington home around the fireplace to add depth and visual interest to the space. Fluting is used as decorative accents on walls, on Kitchen islands, backsplashes, and showers, just to name a few.

Doggone’ Smart Dog Doors

Gone are the days of the flimsy ‘flap’ pet doors! At this year’s IBS show, we got a glimpse into the future of pet-friendly home design with Pawport’s smart pet door – a high-tech, high security solution for outdoor time. Controlled via an app on your phone, it connects to a unique collar worn by your pet and allows you to set schedules for when and how long the door stays open. And in addition to being functional, it’s also designed to complement your home. Crafted from solid steel and aluminum, the door is available in a variety of colors and even features colored lights for a decorative touch. It’s also designed for easy retrofitting with nearly any existing pet door or can be integrated directly into a Kolbe window or door.

Moody Palettes

Another trend we’re excited about – millennial grey is being replaced by darker, richer hues to create a sophisticated and dramatic aesthetic throughout the home. To embrace this trend, consider mixing black with gold and copper metallics – especially in areas like kitchens and bathrooms – for an especially striking, high-end look.

Durable Engineered Materials

This year’s show saw no shortage of natural material alternatives, with James Hardie being a standout exhibitor. Their new TimberHue™ Collection combines durability with style and is engineered to withstand even the harshest weather conditions – snow, hail, and freezing temperatures included. Evolve Stone also displayed the efficiency of its resin composite stone veneer, offering live demonstrations to highlight how much faster its installation process is than competing products.

Multi-Generational and Flexible Floorplans

Another trend that Compass has incorporated in homes for years – multi-generational and flexible floorplans. These thoughtful designs have also been gaining popularity, and for good reason. More families are choosing to live together—whether to provide care for elderly relatives, assist with childcare, or simply foster closer connections – and these types of floor plans make it easy to accommodate multiple generations or separate family units under one roof.

Thoughtfully designed homes for this type of living arrangement can offer separate but connected living spaces, allowing different generations or family units to have privacy while still being close enough for shared time. At Compass, we embrace this trend by integrating first-floor guest suites, lower-level bedrooms, full bathrooms, and efficient kitchens into our floor plans, making it easier than ever for families to live comfortably—together.
